Our Leadership
The South Carolina Student Legislature is entirely student-run. Our leadership structure is inspired by the framework of the South Carolina state government. All members of the Student Legislature are members of either the House of Representatives or the Senate; these two chambers provide a vibrant environment for participation and education. From these two houses, members elect the five officials of the Executive Committee who lead the organization with the assistance of the Governor's Cabinet and Executive Office.
Governor | Eva Rose Hoagland
Eva is a junior Political Science and History student at Clemson University, with plans on attending law school upon graduation. As Governor, she plans Fall and Spring mock legislation conferences, maintains the organization's website, oversees the delegation chairs, and is a member of the SCSL Board of Directors. Her interests in politics and government were cultivated at a young age through a desire to help others, and the South Carolina State Student Legislature provided her with an outlet to advocate for issues like education and healthcare reform. Student Legislature has strengthened her debate and reasoning skills and has contributed to her goal of becoming a litigator.
At Clemson, she is the Secretary of Governmental Affairs for Clemson Undergraduate Student Government, a member of Kappa Alpha Pi Pre-Law and Government Fraternity, where she serves as a member of the Philanthropy committee, Lyceum Fellows, and is a Business Calculus tutor. She has interned with the United States Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center and the South Carolina Attorney General's Office in the Medicaid Recipient Fraud Unit of the Criminal Division. Eva has also served as an AmeriCorps member and reading tutor at her hometown’s United Way. Aside from politics, Eva is an avid runner and loves spending time outdoors and going to concerts.

Lieutenant Governor | Amelia Rhyne
A native of South Carolina, Amelia has been involved in local politics since high school. Some of her experience includes volunteering at local municipalities, attending town hall meetings, and working in administrations under her local town hall. She is currently attending Presbyterian College, where she studies political science and pre-law. For the last two years, she has been undergoing an internship with the House Sargent at Arms at the SC State House as well as a Summer Internship with Lindsey Graham’s office. She has been a part of SCSL since her Freshman year and pursued legislation on Mental Health and Education. She plays both Golf and Tennis and loves the Beach. When she graduates, she plans to pursue a career in government and/or law.
Speaker of the House | McKenzie DuBose
McKenzie DuBose is a junior Political Science major at the University of South Carolina. As Speaker of the House, she presides over the House chambers during the fall session and is one of the presiding officers during the spring session. McKenzie has been an active member of SCSL since her freshman year and has served as the secretary of the USC delegation and the Speaker Pro-Tempore for the 2025 sessions. McKenzie is currently a campus safety officer with the UofSC police department, and in the fall, she will begin an accelerated Master's of Public Administration.
