Parliamentary Procedure

Learn the Rules

The most important part of maintaining order in a group of people is to make sure everyone "plays by the same rules." Robert's Rules of Order is that rulebook and can be used for any size organization. It is easiest to learn RRoO by just diving in and getting involved, but there are several basic rules to follow:
  1. One person controls the floor - He/she can control who speaks and when
  2. Do not speak unless you are "recognized" - The person who controls the floor
  3. Be succinct and clear in your statements
  4. Do not curse on the floor
  5. Learn the language
